Langue du contenu
Construction of the church in Nowosolna began in 1846. It was originally a Protestant church and later served Catholics as the Church of St Andrew Bobola. Its history therefore encompasses two religious communities, and its current name does not describe its original function.
Sylwester Szpilowski drew up the design in 1811, decades before construction began. The wooden church is the oldest building in the Łódź City Culture Park. Its interior retains its religious furnishings. Among houses, a villa and a former tram shelter, it represents another purpose of architecture: a place for communal worship.
The church's history is distinct from that of the open-air museum. It was built for a local community long before the museum was founded and before the wooden buildings were assembled as a group. The preserved church records the religious life of the former settlement, alongside the museum's accounts of work and housing.
