À propos de l’objet

The Nobel Laureate's Table is 35 metres long and seats 230 people at once. Its top was made from a single piece of wood left over when a record-breaking plank was cut in Szymbark. Two exhibits are thus linked to the same undertaking: the long plank and a table that can accommodate a large gathering.

The table weighs around six tonnes and contains seven cubic metres of timber. Its dimensions result from working one large section of a tree, without assembling the top from a row of shorter, separate tables.

Its name commemorates Lech Wałęsa's Nobel Peace Prize. It connects the craftsmanship of the object with the history of Solidarity and political change in Poland. The dedication honours a particular laureate, while the furniture retains the practical form of a shared table.
