À propos de l’objet

The castle well is 78 metres deep. Its tower belongs to the lower service area of Karlštejn, associated with the everyday operation of the fortified residence. A historic water-lifting system survives. The mechanism and deep shaft reveal the technical side of castle life, alongside the much better-known chambers, chapels and valuables.

The tower forms part of the freely accessible grounds. It is the endpoint of the walk with the TourStories mobile audio guide, which begins outside the entrance gate and explores the outer parts of the complex. Access from the main courtyard to the well area involves 73 steps. Visitors return the same way: this is a branch requiring a climb back to the courtyard, rather than a passage continuing into the imperial rooms.

Pour les enfants

Water had to be drawn from a very deep shaft. The castle well is 78 metres deep, and an old water-lifting mechanism survives beside it. This part of the castle was connected with its residents’ everyday needs.

You descend 73 steps from the courtyard to the well, then return the same way. The TourStories audio walk through the freely accessible grounds ends at the tower. Exploring this area independently is different from visiting the rooms with a guide.
