À propos de l’objet

The Royal Castle is one of the Warsaw buildings recreated at Kolejkowo. The real building has a long history, reaching back to the fourteenth century and the construction of the Great Tower, now known as the Grodzka Tower.

Extensions in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, associated with Sigismund III Vasa's reign, gave the residence its enclosed pentagonal plan. It housed the monarch, parliamentary meetings and the administration of the state.

German troops blew up the castle in September 1944. The decision to rebuild it was not taken until 1971, and the reconstructed interiors opened to visitors in 1984. Today's building did not simply survive the war unchanged.

Until 1980, reconstruction was funded entirely by public donations. The model's enclosed outline conveys the scale of what was rebuilt: the post-war project restored an entire building, not just a single façade facing the square.
