À propos de l’objet

An angel stands beneath the six-sided pulpit basket, supporting the place from which the preacher spoke. The basket is the enclosed platform occupied by the minister. The sculpture makes the supporting figure part of the decoration of the whole furnishing. The pulpit is a seventeenth-century work from Mathäus Knothe’s workshop in Legnica. It belongs to the Baroque furnishings gradually added after the church opened for worship.

Figures of the Evangelists, Moses and John the Baptist decorate the basket and the stair balustrade. The decoration thus includes both the preaching platform and the steps leading to it. Figures from the Old and New Testaments appear together in one sculptural ensemble. Above the pulpit is an ornamental crowning structure bearing the risen Christ. The angel supports the basket below, while Christ completes the vertical composition high above it. These figures accompanied the preaching of sermons, a central part of Lutheran worship.

Pour les enfants

A carved angel stands beneath the pulpit. It supports the basket: a small, enclosed platform for the minister delivering a sermon. The basket has six sides. Steps with an ornamental railing lead up to it.

Sculptors from Mathäus Knothe’s workshop in Legnica made the pulpit in the seventeenth century. They placed figures of the Evangelists, the writers of the Gospels, alongside Moses and John the Baptist. The figures decorate both the basket and the stairs.

At the very top is the risen Christ. The sculptures form a clear arrangement: the angel below, the preacher’s place in the middle, and Christ above. This historic furnishing was used to address the congregation.
