À propos de l’objet

The “Enchanted World of Matches” gallery opened in May 2005. Its subject is historic buildings depicted on match packaging: architecture reduced to the small format of an everyday object. Match manufacturers worked with the gallery, including Euromatch of Bystrzyca Kłodzka. Other partners included the Czechowice factory and the companies B.L. Match Jamno and Wołoszyn.

There was also a Hungarian connection: the Europe Match factory in Szeged took part. Local industry was therefore joined by a manufacturer from outside Poland.

The project aimed to promote historic buildings through illustrations on packaging, rather than simply present company logos. A matchbox became a carrier for an architectural image. Look at one of these designs and compare the recognisable outline with the details the artist has omitted. A small surface calls for a different treatment from a large photograph or display panel.
