À propos de l’objet

Brick fragments from Veľký Kýr bear Roman legion stamps. They come from the remains of a Roman building, and their markings connect the construction material with several military units. Unlike weapons, they testify to building activity and the consolidation of positions in the region. The village was formerly known as Milanovce.

The Germanic Quadi and Marcomanni were present in what is now the Nové Zámky district from the first century AD. Roman legions entered the region during the Marcomannic Wars. After the fighting ended, the Romans strengthened their positions; the building at Veľký Kýr provides material evidence of this activity.

Objects from settlements and graves at Bešeňov, Štúrovo and Komjatice represent the everyday lives of Germanic communities. Combining domestic and burial finds broadens the picture beyond warfare. Roman coins dated to the first through fourth centuries AD add another kind of evidence. Bricks, grave goods and money reveal different aspects of contact between the Roman and Germanic worlds.
