À propos de l’objet

Hugo Seydel, the museum's first director, collected glass and documented its manufacture in the Karkonosze. The collection also includes glassworks pattern books, paper impressions of decoration, tools, moulds and wax seal impressions. These objects show the practical background to glassmaking, from designs and tools to finished vessels.

The Mieczysław Buczyński Artistic Glass Exhibition brings together Silesian and Czech products. Historicist glass includes work from the Josephine glassworks in Szklarska Poręba and Fritz Heckert's company in Piechowice. Heckert's products include double betrothal cups: a female figure holds a small glass bowl, while a second, larger bowl forms her skirt. Two vessels are combined in a single object.

The exhibition concludes with contemporary glass, including work by artists associated with Wrocław's art academy. The collection holds about a thousand contemporary works, with more than a hundred in the permanent display. Post-war artists initially experimented mainly with the form of blown glass. Cold working, involving carving a solid glass body, later gained importance. Alongside vessels are works that use glass as a sculptural material.
