À propos de l’objet

GAZ 66 production ran from 1964 to 1999, a span of 35 years. These dates describe the model’s history rather than the age of the individual museum vehicle. This Soviet-designed truck belongs to the wheeled vehicle collection in Borne Sulinowo.

Its engine used a V8 layout: eight cylinders arranged in two banks forming a V instead of one long row. The gearbox had four forward speeds, with synchromesh on third and fourth gears to help match the speed of interacting parts during a gear change. The terms V8 and four-speed describe different components: the first refers to the engine’s layout, the second to the transmission carrying its power to the wheels.

Pour les enfants

The letters and number V8 tell us about the GAZ 66’s engine. It has eight cylinders arranged in two banks that form a V. This is different from an engine with all its cylinders in a single row.

The driver had four forward gears. Third and fourth had synchromesh, a mechanism that helps gearbox parts match their speed when changing gear. This Soviet truck was produced from 1964 to 1999, a period of 35 years. Those dates describe the model as a whole; individual vehicles could have left the factory in different years.
