Douglas Robert Harman Collection
A personal collection of minerals, rocks, fossils and gemstones donated by the collector’s wife.
Langue du contenu
Douglas Robert Harman's private collection reached the museum through his wife, Mirosława. The gift comprises around five hundred specimens: minerals, rocks, fossils, precious stones and ornamental stones. Presenting it under his name preserves its connection with the person who assembled it.
Harman was born in London and collected minerals and gemstones. He wanted the collection to pass after his death to an institution that would appreciate its value and make it accessible to visitors. Its donation to the Wrocław museum fulfilled that wish.
The exhibition opened on 12 October 2023. It combines the collector's different interests: mineral specimens are accompanied by rocks, fossils and materials valued in jewellery. Its scope is broader than a collection of a single mineral species or specimens from one deposit. Within the university museum, the gift remains an identifiable collection bearing its former owner's name and forming part of the public displays.
