À propos de l’objet

The Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner is a passenger aircraft dating from the 1970s. The example brought to WENA accommodated 17 passengers. That figure defines its scale: a small airliner, very different from large jets carrying hundreds of people. It previously flew for the German airline Eurowings. Before becoming an exhibit, it carried passengers, linking this particular airframe to European commercial aviation rather than simply to a catalogue of aircraft designs.

After its working life, the aircraft underwent assembly and restoration in preparation for display. Joining the collection meant putting it back together as an object that visitors could examine at close range.

The museum provides access to the aircraft’s interior, including the passenger cabin and cockpit. These served different purposes: passengers travelled in one, while pilots operated the aircraft from the other. Comparing them gives a more concrete sense of the machine than viewing its fuselage alone. The interior retains the scale of a small passenger aircraft.
