Former Provincial Treasury Building
The museum's home since 1953: the former provincial treasury building on Kościuszki Street, extended in 1976.
Langue du contenu
The former provincial treasury building has housed the museum since 1953. The collections arrived from a townhouse on Aleja Wolności, where they had been moved just a year earlier. An administrative building became the home of an institution collecting objects from Kalisz and south-eastern Greater Poland.
A new wing opened in 1976. The extension coincided with the adoption of a statute and the name District Museum of the Kalisz Land. The present building therefore combines the former government premises with a later museum wing built to accommodate the growing collections.
A complete renovation finished in 2023. Five permanent exhibitions were arranged here, covering archaeology, ethnography, the city's history, art and Tadeusz Kulisiewicz. The former patio was also converted into a library housing early printed books. Alongside its exhibition rooms, the building thus holds a historic book collection.
