The Egg Museum opened on 3 April 2004. It was the first institution in Poland devoted to decorated eggs. The permanent display grew from the private collection of Irena Stasiewicz-Jasiukowa and Jerzy Jasiuk, which they donated to the museum. Irena Stasiewicz-Jasiukowa was a historian of science and culture, while Jerzy Jasiuk served for many years as director of the Museum of Technology in Warsaw. When the museum opened, the collection held more than 1,000 objects. By the end of 2025, the collection had grown to more than 2,859 eggs.
The pieces come from Polish regions and many countries, including China, Japan, Kenya and Australia. Visitors can compare eggs decorated with wax, painted, or covered with paper, rush pith or wool; poppy seeds and grains of rice were also used. Some eggs are carved from lime wood, while others were cast, forged or pierced into openwork. Some openwork decorations were made with a dental drill. Unlike drawing a pattern in wax, this technique creates the ornament by cutting openings rather than colouring the surface.
