"Strzyżów Threads of World War II" Exhibition
A three-part exhibition on the region's fate during World War II - forced labour, the shelter tunnel and Hitler's train, and residents' individual stories.
Langue du contenu
The “Strzyżów Threads of World War II” exhibition has three sections. It begins with forced labour, moves on to military infrastructure and ends with residents' personal histories. Audio and visual material explores the experiences of people forced to work under the occupation.
The next section concerns the shelter tunnel under Żarnowska Hill and Hitler's staff train, “Amerika”. The museum display tells the story of a separate structure elsewhere in town. The train was stationed in the Strzyżów tunnel on 27 and 28 August 1941, during Hitler's meeting with Mussolini in Stępina.
The biographical section includes a pilot and prisoners held in concentration camps and prisoner-of-war camps. Their experiences are presented alongside everyday life in occupied Strzyżów. The exhibition connects the history of military infrastructure with individual lives in the surrounding region.
