Muzeum Uzbrojenia - Cytadela

The Armaments Museum on Poznań’s Citadel occupies Fort Winiary’s former Detached Laboratory. Probably built in 1888/1889, it was initially used to store gunpowder and manufacture ammunition. The preserved interior now houses weapons, uniforms and equipment. Some of the collection consists of objects discovered during work on the Citadel.

The exhibition on the fighting for Poznań in January and February 1945 connects military history with the experiences of local people. It gives particular attention to the cytadelowcy, Poznań residents who took part in the fighting for Fort Winiary. Uniformed figures, a multimedia database of participants and a list of those killed introduce people connected with the battle.

Outside is the Outdoor Military Equipment Park. Its exhibits include T-34 and IS-2 tanks, a BM-13N Katyusha launcher on an American truck, guns and transport vehicles. The aviation collection includes the Il-28, the Polish Iskra and helicopters. Alongside combat equipment are machines for training, transport and communications. These varied designs reveal the technical support behind an army, while the indoor exhibition preserves the memory of people affected by war.

Pour les enfants

The Citadel has a museum with old vehicles, aircraft and objects used by soldiers. Its building was once a military laboratory. Gunpowder was stored and ammunition prepared here. It was probably built in 1888/1889. Today, museum visitors arrive in place of the people who once worked in the storehouse.

Inside, you can learn about Poznań in 1945. Fighting took place in the city, and local people also participated. They were called cytadelowcy. The museum shows uniforms, equipment and information about them. It also preserves the names of people who died.

Large machines stand outside. Tanks travel on tracks, cars on wheels, and helicopters rise using turning rotors. The Iskra was used to teach people to fly. The Dodge carried loads. The collection introduces different jobs done by machines and their crews. All these objects are now historic exhibits that help tell the story of the past.
