Rectory from Żeszczynka
A former Greek Catholic rectory built in 1824, with a reconstructed priest’s home and parish office.
Langue du contenu
The rectory from Żeszczynka was built in 1824 for the Uniate community. It served Greek Catholic clergy until 1875, then Orthodox clergy, and Roman Catholic clergy from 1921. These were three successive denominational affiliations, involving two changes between them.
The building uses interlocking pine logs. Galvanised iron sheets now replace its original thatched roof. The museum interior follows the room arrangement introduced in 1859, which drew on manor-house layouts. Two rows of rooms accommodate the priest's home and the office where parish business was conducted. The exhibition represents a typical small-town Roman Catholic rectory in early 1939, rather than every stage of the building's history at once.
The rectory was erected at the museum in 1977 and has been open with its furnished interior since May 2010. It forms a sacred complex with the church from Matczyn, bell tower from Motycz, granary from Wrzelowiec and cemetery lapidarium.
