Langue du contenu
The former Uniate Church of St Nicholas was built in the first half of the 18th century for the Uniate theological seminary in Chełm. It is a Baroque church with a single nave. After the Uniate seminary closed in 1875, it served the Orthodox seminary and later became a Catholic chapel.
The museum took over the building in 1980. It now houses the Department of Chełm Land Art. During renovation in 2022-2023, five previously unknown recesses were found in two walls. They included a former passage to the neighbouring seminary and an entrance to a wooden sacristy that no longer exists.
In June 2022, a time capsule was discovered in a blocked passage. It had been placed there during renovation in the mid-1970s and contained parts of the main altar and a wooden crucifix from the 1920s.
