A Monument of History
From protection of the fortified landscape to a Golden POT Certificate: successive stages in caring for the site.

The fortress was designated a Monument of History in 2004. Protection covers a wide complex of fortifications whose value includes the surviving relationships between individual forts. Walls, slopes and the distances between defensive works were all parts of one military design.
The Fortress Cultural Park had been established two years earlier. It included the fortress and the remains of the disused rack railway. This approach considered the heritage of the whole area, extending beyond an individual gateway or building.
Opening the stronghold to visitors has a much longer history. The fortifications were already attracting excursions in the late nineteenth century. Their uses changed after the troops left; a restaurant, arms museum and viewpoint later operated here. Today's visitor facilities continue that tourist role of the former military site.
In 2025, the fortress received the Polish Tourism Organisation's Golden Certificate. This is an award for a tourism product, separate from its heritage designation. It was presented during the competition's twenty-second edition, decided at the Tour Salon fair in Poznań. The two distinctions concern different things: the historical value of the surviving complex and how it is presented to visitors.
