À propos de l’objet

Giovanni Pinotti, a Renaissance painter from Lucca in Italy, created the paintings after which Pinotti Hall is named. The cycle, “The Story of Moses”, depicts episodes from the life of the biblical figure. It consists of twelve paintings made in 1545.

The artist used tempera on wooden panels, applying the paint to wood rather than canvas. The paintings decorate the former ballroom of Brzeg Castle. Their wooden supports distinguish them from paintings executed directly on walls. A shared protagonist and subject connect the individual scenes into an extended narrative cycle, rather than a collection of unrelated portraits or landscapes. In January 2024, the cycle was used in activities in which children learned about the ingredients of tempera paint and tried making it themselves.
