Eurasian lynx
A solitary forest hunter that is most active at dawn and in the evening.
A tartalom nyelve
The lynx pavilion at Akcent ZOO was built in 2015. It has two sections, and the enclosure covers more than 200 square metres. A year later, branches, plants, hiding places and a small waterfall were added. These features give the cat a choice of resting spots and places to retreat from visitors' view.
Dawn and evening are the Eurasian lynx's busiest times. During the day, it rests in sheltered places: bushes, tall grass or trees. An enclosure that looks empty at first glance may still have its resident tucked away inside.
Lynx generally live alone. The most lasting bond is between a mother and the young she is raising. This differs from the family pack of wolves, another animal found in this zoo.
This cat eats meat, with hoofed mammals forming an important part of its natural diet. It is also a capable climber and swimmer. Its movement is therefore not restricted to the forest floor.
Gyerekeknek
The lynx at Białystok's zoo has hiding places, branches and plants. Its two-part pavilion was built in 2015, and a small waterfall was added later. An animal living in a home like this can be hard to spot. If the cat rests behind plants, you may barely see it from the path.
Lynx prefer to go hunting at dawn and in the evening. During the day, they choose quiet shelters, sometimes in trees. They climb well and can swim too. They eat meat, hunting animals such as hoofed mammals in the wild.
An adult lynx usually lives alone. A mother stays with her young while raising them, but lynx do not form family packs like wolves. These two predators in the same zoo show two different ways of living in the forest.
