New Polish Fashion. A Chronicle of Deep Emotions
An exhibition of 21st-century Polish fashion, featuring work by more than 50 designers and exploring memory, identity and emotions.
A tartalom nyelve
Clothes and accessories by more than 50 designers show how Polish fashion in the 21st century draws on history and contemporary culture. Designers represented include Gosia Baczyńska, Arkadius, Tomasz Armada and Magda Butrym. Their work is not arranged as a catalogue of seasonal trends. Curator Marcin Różyc brings the designs together around memory, origins, identity and emotions.
References to Sarmatian culture, rural life and Slavic mythology meet the aesthetics of techno and drag. Ethical production and the use of local crafts form another theme. In this context, a garment speaks both about its wearer and about the experiences of its designer.
The exhibition draws on the museum's growing collection of recent fashion. Its spatial design is by Zuza Golińska, working with Trin Alt. A bilingual book of essays on Polish fashion accompanies the display. Some of the garments were previously shown at fashion weeks in London, Paris and Berlin. They were created for an international runway, even when their themes grew out of Polish experiences.
