The 1939 Mercedes 170 V is one of the cars listed in the Gdynia collection. The model itself was presented on 15 February 1936 at the International Automobile and Motorcycle Exhibition in Berlin. Known internally as the W 136, it occupied the middle segment of the Mercedes range.
At the start of sales, customers could choose six body styles: two-door and four-door saloons, a cabriolet saloon, an open touring car, Cabriolet B and a roadster. Cabriolet A joined the list in May 1936. These bodies allowed one basic design to meet different needs, from everyday travel to open-air motoring.
After the war, the 170 V became the basis for the resumption of Mercedes-Benz production. From May 1946, manufacturing focused on delivery vehicles, vans and ambulances needed for reconstruction. The model’s history thus spans two different periods: expansion of the pre-war passenger-car range and post-war demand for practical working vehicles.
Gyerekeknek
The Gdynia Mercedes 170 V dates from 1939. The model was first shown in Berlin in February 1936. W 136 was its factory code. Buyers could choose several body styles, including closed cars with two or four doors and open cars.
Another convertible, a car with an opening roof, joined the range in May 1936. After the war the model took on new duties. From May 1946 it formed the basis of delivery vehicles and ambulances needed during reconstruction. The same family of designs therefore served both passenger travel and the transport of goods and patients.
