Hontianske múzeum a Galéria Ľudovíta Simonyiho

Hontianske múzeum preserves traces of the region's history along the Ipeľ: documents, portraits, old household objects and craft tools. Its ethnographic collections present the culture of Hont's Slovak and Hungarian inhabitants, while the historical displays span the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.

The institution continues the tradition of the county museum founded in 1902, which ceased operating in 1924. It was re-established as a municipal museum in 1992. The region's history also includes remembrance of its Jewish inhabitants, whose names are preserved on a Holocaust memorial.

The institution's artistic branch is Galéria Ľudovíta Simonyiho. Its collection grew from the painter's gift, and temporary exhibitions accompany the permanent presentation of his life and work. The museum also organises exhibitions in the former synagogue, now known as Menora Saag Centrum Artis.

The timetable applies to Hontianske múzeum at J. Rotaridesa 13. Last visit at 15:30. The gallery at Hlavné námestie 1: 1 November–30 April, Mon–Fri 8:15–16:00. Menora Saag Centrum Artis synagogue at Námestie Bélu Bartóka 12: 1 May–31 October, Mon–Fri 8:15–16:00. These venues also have their last visit at 15:30 and are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
