Jaskinia Niedźwiedzia w Kletnie
On 14 October 1966, marble quarrying in Kletno exposed the entrance to a cave. Bones of large mammals, mainly cave bears, were found among the quarried blocks. These animals gave the cave its name. Quarrying stopped in December of the same year, and researchers and cavers began investigating the discovery.
The cave developed in the marble of the Śnieżnik Massif. Water hollowed out the rock and later deposited calcite underground, forming stalactites, draperies and pools. The known chambers and passages total nearly 5 kilometres in length, with a vertical range exceeding 100 metres. The standard visitor route opens up part of the middle level, not the entire system.
Bones in sediment, water-sculpted ceilings and the formations of the Palace Chamber reveal different stages of the cave's history. A nature reserve was established in 1977, and the cave opened to visitors on 11 June 1983, after eight years of preparation. Its mineral formations continue to grow from water seeping through the rock.
