“Karel Komínek - 100” marks the centenary of the painter’s birth and runs from 26 September to 15 November 2026. It presents a selection of works connected with landscapes and places to which he had personal ties. A substantial part of Komínek’s output entered the museum collection in 2025, thanks to cooperation with his heirs. These works provided an important basis for the anniversary exhibition. Komínek was a non-professional realist landscape painter of the second half of the twentieth century. He tried to study art in Prague, but developed mainly outside academic circles. He remained committed to a realist approach to painting.
An important influence was the Lanškroun art group led by secondary-school teacher Vlastimil Novák. There he developed his skills and compared his work with that of other regional artists. He painted the areas around Čáslav and Lanškroun, Prague and other places close to him. He also made floral still lifes and drawings of historic buildings, cottages and farmsteads. Some of these structures no longer exist, so his works also preserve a record of their former surroundings.
Gyerekeknek
Karel Komínek painted landscapes and drew buildings. An exhibition marking the hundredth anniversary of his birth presents a selection of his works. It runs from 26 September to 15 November 2026. The previous year, the museum acquired a substantial part of his work through his heirs.
Komínek developed his skills mainly outside art school. The art group in Lanškroun, led by Vlastimil Novák, helped him. He painted realistically, keeping the places he depicted recognisable.
His subjects included the areas around Čáslav and Lanškroun, as well as Prague. He also painted flowers and drew houses and farms. Some of these buildings have disappeared. Their appearance survives in his works.
