A tárgyról

The amber from Partynice comes from three storage pits dated to the first century BC. The first find was discovered in June 1906 during construction of the horse-racing track. Two further pits were uncovered in September 1936 while a road leading to the motorway was being built. Pottery found with the amber provided the basis for dating it. The amber was an unworked raw material intended for onward transport or exchange.

In the pits, larger pieces lay below smaller ones. Traces of supports and access to the hollows support their interpretation as storage facilities. This differs from the familiar idea of treasure buried to remain undiscovered. The find is linked to the amber trade along a route running from northern to southern Europe. The absence of tools and finished products does not support identifying the pits as a local workshop.

Most of the amber was lost when the former museum was destroyed in 1945. About 4.5 kilograms from the assemblage survive in Wrocław's Archaeological Museum. Later spectroscopic analysis confirmed that it was Baltic amber.

Gyerekeknek

At Partynice, three ancient amber stores were discovered. They were pits in the ground containing unworked pieces. Larger pieces were placed below smaller ones. Pottery found nearby helped date the stock to the first century BC.

The first pit was found during construction of the horse-racing track in 1906, and the other two thirty years later. The amber was connected with trade between northern and southern Europe. Most of the find was lost in 1945. Around 4.5 kilograms from this old collection survive in the Wrocław museum.
