The post-war museum was already operating in 1950, when museums across Poland were nationalised. They came under the Central Board of Museums and Monument Protection at the Ministry of Culture and Art.

Direct scholarly and administrative supervision of Lower Silesian museums was entrusted to the Silesian Museum in Wrocław. The Bolesławiec institution drew on its help to rebuild its collection and prepare its displays.

The former museum building was renovated in 1952-1953. Following reorganisation, it welcomed visitors on 27 December 1953, with some objects for the new exhibitions coming from the Wrocław museum's collections.

Three permanent exhibitions addressed different subjects. The first covered archaeology and the earliest history of Silesia, the second folk art from the Bolesławiec area, and the third ceramics and production techniques. Ceramic vessels were thus displayed alongside objects relating to the region's earlier history and local folk culture.
