Muzeum Farmacji Wydziału Farmaceutycznego Uniwersytetu Medycznego im. Piastów Śląskich we Wrocławiu

A pharmacy operated for centuries in this house on Kurzy Targ. Today, the Pharmacy Museum of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Silesian Piasts Medical University in Wrocław explores the history of medicines through the equipment of the apothecary's workshop: furniture, vessels, raw materials and machines. A historic dispensing room joins reconstructions of an alchemist's workshop and an apothecary's study in the museum's account.

The collection includes natural ingredients of plant, animal and mineral origin. Heavy equipment illustrates grinding raw materials, pressing juices and sterilising apparatus. Another section explores synthetic and semi-synthetic medicines through analytical and measuring equipment and different dosage forms. The Arab Room adds reproductions of miniatures from medieval Muslim medical treatises and objects associated with traditional medicine in North Africa.

The museum opened in autumn 2011, following years of work to adapt the historic building. As a unit of the Faculty of Pharmacy, it combines collecting evidence of historical pharmacy with research and education.

Gyerekeknek

Before many medicines began to be produced in factories, apothecaries made them in their workshops. At Wrocław's Pharmacy Museum, you can discover objects connected with this work. They include wooden furniture, small vessels, weighing tools and large machines for grinding ingredients.

A reconstructed alchemist's workshop explores early investigations of substances. The apothecary's study contains tools for preparing medicines. Other parts of the museum show materials from plants, animals and minerals, and medicines connected with advances in chemistry. The Arab Room presents illustrations from old medical treatises and objects from traditional medicine in North Africa.

The house itself also has a history of pharmacy. A pharmacy operated here from the 13th century until 1951. After years of renovation, the museum opened in 2011. Its old equipment helps explain the history of the study of medicines.
