Veterinary Museum
Nineteen sections on animal care, veterinary instruments and the history of the profession.
A tartalom nyelve
The Veterinary Museum’s permanent exhibition opened on 5 June 1982. It occupies nineteenth-century manor stables where an animal clinic operated after the Second World War. The exhibition connects the history of the profession with earlier treatments and the development of veterinary instruments.
The visit moves through 19 sections, from folk veterinary medicine and blacksmithing to diagnosis, laboratory work, pharmacy, surgery and animal reproduction. The section on controlling infectious and parasitic diseases includes a large collection of needles and syringes. Further on, the pharmacy is joined by equipment for diagnosing internal diseases and administering medicines. The collection holds nearly 6,000 objects, mostly veterinary tools, alongside horseshoes, laboratory equipment, medicines and biological preparations. Separate sections cover veterinary education in Poland and abroad and veterinary medicine in the military. Laboratory equipment was also used to test food of animal origin. The collections include mementoes of veterinary education, while the department’s library holds nearly two thousand books.
Professor Jan Tropiło prepared the exhibition script; Tadeusz Bochen and Sławomir Chudzik created its visual design.
