Muzeum Ziemi Usteckiej
Old photographs, documents and everyday objects reveal Ustka through the lives of its residents. The Museum of the Ustka Region collects objects and photographs from the turn of the twentieth century alongside post-war documents. Its holdings include typewriters, sewing machines, old washing devices and photographic equipment: cameras, lamps, enlargers and a copying device. Paintings and sculptures by local artist and teacher Michał Stroiński form another strand of the collection.
Memorabilia from the Ustka shipyard are an important part of the museum. Models of trawlers, fishing boats and lifeboats represent vessels associated with local production. They are accompanied by fishing-boat fittings, banners, medals, photographs and chronicles. These are material traces of a shipyard that has disappeared from the town's industrial landscape. The permanent display occupies the ground-floor room, while temporary exhibitions are held upstairs.
The museum opened on 27 June 2000 through the efforts of the Friends of Ustka Association. Plans for a home of its own developed after an exhibition held at the Baltic Art Gallery in 1995. The growing collection needed somewhere to stay permanently. Construction of a replica eighteenth-century timber-framed house began in May 1996. Residents, association members and students from the local technical school helped as volunteers.

What was life in Ustka like many years ago? Old photographs and everyday objects help you find out at this museum. There are sewing machines, typewriters, old washing equipment and devices used by photographers. Some of the photographs and objects date from the turn of the twentieth century. Documents also tell us about the years after the war. The museum collects paintings and sculptures by Michał Stroiński, a local artist who was also a teacher.
Ustka had its own shipyard, a place where vessels were built. The museum preserves models of fishing boats, trawlers and lifeboats, as well as fishing-boat fittings. Photographs, chronicles, medals and banners are among the objects left by the shipyard. The permanent collection is on the ground floor. The room upstairs hosts exhibitions with changing themes.
The museum was created by residents who belonged to the Friends of Ustka Association. After an exhibition in 1995, they decided to give their collection a permanent home. Building work began in May 1996, and the museum opened on 27 June 2000. The house recreates the appearance of an eighteenth-century timber-framed building, with a wooden framework in its walls. Students from the local technical school helped to build it too.
