Execution cell
The room that once held the prison gallows, associated with General August Emil Fieldorf, known as “Nil”.
A tartalom nyelve
The execution cell once contained the prison gallows. General August Emil Fieldorf, known as “Nil”, organiser and head of the Home Army's sabotage command, Kedyw, was executed here. He was sentenced to death by hanging on 16 April 1952, and the sentence was carried out at Mokotów Prison on 24 February 1953. Bolesław Kontrym, known as “Żmudzin”, was also executed in this room.
After the war, Fieldorf was arrested by the Security Office and transferred from Łódź to Warsaw. Before his imprisonment on Rakowiecka Street, he was held at the Ministry of Public Security's detention centre on Koszykowa Street. His fate connects this cell with a wartime underground commander who was subsequently treated as an enemy of the state.
In 2024, the interior underwent investigation and restoration to help establish how it had changed over time. Conservators made exploratory openings in the plaster, looking for alterations, inscriptions, surviving fittings and gallows mechanisms. The work therefore concerned both wall surfaces and physical traces of the room's former use.
