The Basilica of the Assumption in Krzeszów is among the monuments recreated in Kowary. The original is the Baroque church of a former Cistercian abbey. It was built in 1728-1735 on the initiative of Abbot Innocent Fritsch. It replaced an earlier Gothic church. Material from the demolished building was reused in the new foundations and crypts, giving the Baroque church a physical connection with its predecessor despite its new architectural form.
Inside the real basilica, the high altar contains a painting of the Assumption by Peter Brandl. Below it is a medieval icon of Our Lady of Grace. These works belong to the original church in Krzeszów. The model in Kowary has its own musical setting, with works by Johann Sebastian Bach. The miniature introduces the history of a large abbey church, while the music is a separate part of its presentation in the park.
Gyerekeknek
Here in Kowary is a model of the basilica in Krzeszów. A basilica is a church granted a special title. The real building was erected in the 18th century for a Cistercian monastery. Abbot Innocent Fritsch initiated the work, which was completed in 1735. An older Gothic church had stood there before.
Some material from the earlier building was reused in the foundations and underground rooms. The new church’s altar holds Peter Brandl’s painting of the Assumption and an older icon of Mary. Those works are inside the real church in Krzeszów. Here in the park, Bach’s music accompanies the model. The miniature presents architecture, with sound as part of the display.
