Łódź Microhistories. Human Microhistories
A permanent exhibition in five historic houses of the Łódź City Culture Park, showing the lives of residents of multicultural, textile-industry Łódź against the background of 19th- and 20th-century history.
Lingua dei contenuti
The exhibition occupies five historic houses of the Łódź City Culture Park, combining reconstructed homes and workshops with rooms explaining their historical context. Each house follows different characters against a background of social change, from the family of factory owner Bennich, whose story begins in 1895, to workers at Poznański's factory, the Jewish Piernik family and Mr Liberski's tailoring workshop.
The exhibition won first place in the Exhibition category of the 14th Historical Event of the Year competition. Its stories span almost a century, from the late 19th century to the final decades of communist Poland, covering industrial growth and post-war social change. Family memories, diaries and interviews with older residents provided the starting points. Characters include the Olszycki family, who worked for Poznański, and Chaja and Abram Piernik. Stories about work are set alongside reconstructed domestic surroundings, while the context rooms explain the wider conditions of life in the city.
