Hornonitrianske múzeum v Prievidzi

Hornonitrianske múzeum in Prievidza collects historical objects and natural specimens from the Upper Nitra region. Its holdings include prehistoric tools, coins, festive dress, reverse glass paintings and plant fossils. The industrial region's ground has also preserved impressions of Miocene plants from the Handlová-Nováky coal basin.

The collection's origins lie with the history enthusiasts brought together by Karol Anton Medvecký in 1924. The present museum became an independent institution in 1985, when regional collections were transferred from the museum in Bojnice. Osobnosti múzea 2, presented in 2025-2026, tells the stories of the people who assembled and studied these collections.

Temporary exhibitions give each visit a different focus, from geology to everyday technology. In 2026, the museum brought together radios from several decades to mark a century of regular radio broadcasting in Slovakia. Among them was the battery-powered Radieta receiver, whose wooden cabinet houses four valves and separate tuning circuits.
