PRIM Sport watches
A model linked to swimmer František Venclovský's Channel crossing.
Lingua dei contenuti
Production of PRIM Sport watches began in Nové Město nad Metují in 1968. The armed forces already had the Orlík model, while Sport was intended for civilian customers. The watches acquired the nickname “sportky”, and first-generation examples became valued collectors' items. In the museum, the model represents an important chapter of local watchmaking alongside earlier prototypes and watches designed for specialised uses.
One wearer was František Venclovský, the first Czechoslovak to swim across the English Channel. He achieved this in 1971 with a PRIM Sport watch on his wrist. The model's history thus connects a series-produced object with a specific sporting achievement; the watch in the display belongs to a family of products worn in circumstances well beyond an ordinary daily routine.
