Pückler Palace: the museum’s new home
Since 2024, this three-winged Gothic Revival residence has housed ceramics and city-history collections.
Lingua dei contenuti
Pückler Palace acquired its Gothic Revival appearance in 1857, when an earlier property was remodelled for Count Eduard Maximilian Ferdinand Erdmann von Pückler. Its three wings form a roughly U-shaped plan, dominated by a tower with battlements resembling those of a defensive wall.
In the nineteenth century, the residence stood in an English-style park with a small pond, a bridge and a Gothic Revival pavilion. In 1920, the municipal authorities bought the palace and adapted it as a home for young people. It also housed a library and reading room.
From 1986 to 2019, the building belonged to the district's special education school complex. Work to convert the palace into the Ceramics Museum began in late 2022.
Since April 2024, it has housed the collections of the former Ceramics Department and City History Department. The neighbouring park was restored alongside the interior conversion. The museum is the latest chapter in the history of a residence previously used by private owners, young people and schools.
