Agates of the Kaczawa Mountains are associated with the region's ancient volcanism. Their occurrence is described in rocks formed during the Carboniferous and Permian periods. The collection brings together several localities, showing varied colours alongside different shapes of mineral-filled spaces.
At Nowy Kościół and Sokołowiec, agates occur in rhyolites and rhyolitic tuffs. Cut nodules may display star-shaped or atoll-like patterns, or parallel bands known as the Uruguayan type. Gozdno provides large nodules and fragments, as well as agates forming veins, lenses and layered accumulations.
Lubiechowa offers examples of amygdales filled with minerals: quartz occurs alongside calcite, barite and zeolites. Przeździedza is represented by vein agates and jasper-like material. Specimens from Płóczki show a wide range of colours and banding. The locality names organise the collection geographically; the pattern inside a cut stone makes it possible to compare the arrangement of successive mineral layers.
