Cieplice Through the Centuries
The permanent historical exhibition is divided into two sections.
Lingua dei contenuti
The history of Cieplice is divided into two sections. The first moves from stories of the town’s legendary beginnings to its characteristic landmarks. These include the Spa Park and the Norwegian Park with its Norwegian Pavilion. The same section presents the School of Woodcarving, associated with local craft traditions. The legendary beginnings belong to storytelling about Cieplice rather than providing a documented foundation date.
The second section concentrates on the spa and the Cistercian monastery. It contrasts the unsuccessful foundations of the Silesian dukes Bolesław II Rogatka and Bernard of Lwówek with the successful foundation of Gotsche II Schoff. It also introduces the abbots of Krzeszów who contributed to the development of the Cieplice provostry and the spa run by the Cistercians. Local history is thus connected with a religious community and the places serving spa visitors.

The exhibition divides Cieplice’s history into two sections. The first begins with legends about the town’s origins. A legend is an old story, not an exact record of events. Next come familiar landmarks: the Spa Park and Norwegian Park with its pavilion. There is also the School of Woodcarving, a craft involving carving objects from wood.
The second section explores the spa and the Cistercians. It describes attempts to establish a monastery by Dukes Bolesław II Rogatka and Bernard of Lwówek, and Gotsche II Schoff’s successful foundation. It also tells of abbots from Krzeszów. An abbot headed a monastery. These monks supported their community’s establishment in Cieplice and the spa, connecting the town’s history with the people who shaped it.
