Wojciech Weiss (1875-1950), a painter and printmaker associated with the Young Poland movement, studied at Kraków's School of Fine Arts under Jan Matejko and Leon Wyczółkowski. Between 1898 and 1903, he stayed periodically in Strzyżów, near the railway station. The drawings and prints displayed here are connected with that period.
In 2016, the artist's heirs donated furniture from his house in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. These are therefore objects connected with his family, rather than furnishings chosen simply to evoke his era. The ensemble includes three wardrobes, a glazed display cabinet, a table, a chair, a sofa, armchairs and a mirror. The furniture dates from around the turn of the twentieth century and has undergone conservation.
Glassware, porcelain, books and sheet music belonging to Weiss accompany the furniture. These smaller objects add traces of domestic life to the display of his work. A nineteenth-century piano completes the exhibition. The drawings and prints represent his artistic work, while the furniture and personal possessions show its domestic setting.
