The Story of Toruń Gingerbread
An interactive permanent exhibition across several floors: from ingredients, moulds and ovens to the Weese factory, the townhouse and the communist era.
Lingua dei contenuti
The history of Toruń gingerbread begins with honey, flour and spices and leads to a finished product on a shop shelf. The exhibition combines historical objects with reconstructions, furnished interiors and multimedia. Ingredients and tools explain dough-making, wooden moulds show the woodcarver's work, and ovens illustrate successive baking methods.
The Weese company's history is explored in the reconstructed owner's office. The domestic kitchen and shops from the 19th and 20th centuries shift attention from production to using and buying gingerbread. A café, newsreels and a Żuk delivery van complete the post-war part of the story. Alongside the history of the craft comes the everyday life of people who baked, sold and ate Toruń sweets.
