Dodge WC-52
A transport vehicle with a winch and an open cab.
Lingua dei contenuti
The Dodge WC-52 represents American light trucks with a payload of 750 kilograms. Vehicles in this family carried supplies and weapons, while specially adapted versions also served as ambulances. They were supplied to Allied forces, including the Soviet Union through Lend-Lease. An engine-powered winch is fitted to the front of the museum vehicle. It helped recover the truck from difficult terrain. The bumper and cable mechanism project ahead of the radiator guard, giving the WC-52 a different front end from a vehicle with a simple short bumper.
The two-seat cab has a folding windscreen. Straps replaced solid metal doors, and a removable canvas roof provided shelter from the weather. A load compartment lies behind the cab. The body is clearly divided into the engine compartment, the driver and passenger area, and the cargo section. The four wheels have deeply treaded tyres. Grilles protect the radiator and headlights. A spare wheel and a twenty-litre fuel can sit beside the cab. These external fittings relate to everyday use: crossing rough ground, replenishing fuel and changing a wheel.

There are two seats in the cab. The windscreen could be folded down, and the roof was made of canvas, a tough fabric that provided shelter from the weather. Cargo went behind the cab.
