Lingua dei contenuti
The arboretum in Wrocław is a section of this garden, separate from the Wojsławice branch. It brings together trees, shrubs and dwarf shrubs: perennial plants with woody stems. The collection includes native and non-native species as well as old and new garden varieties. Its name comes from the Latin word arbor, meaning tree. More than 3,000 species and varieties are represented. They include plants from the Caucasus, North America and eastern Asia. Labels help visitors learn to identify taxa, the groups distinguished by botanists, such as species and varieties.
Plants of the heath family form an important part of the collection, with more than 450 taxa. Rhododendrons account for over 300 taxa, while Pieris is represented by more than 40. Together they show the diversity within a single botanical family. Hydrangeas, which belong to a different family, Hydrangeaceae, flower in summer. Their collection contains more than 470 species and varieties. Trees, shrubs and low dwarf shrubs create different layers: trees have a trunk and crown, while shrubs branch near the base. Dwarf shrubs remain small, and their stems often spread close to the ground.
