L’oggetto

The Siberian tiger, also called the Amur tiger, inhabits the cool forests of eastern Asia. Its winter coat grows longer, thicker and paler than its summer fur. It has small, rounded ears, a broad muzzle and powerful forelimbs. Strong shoulders help it overpower prey that may be larger than itself. The name Amur refers to the river flowing through its range in Russia.

In the wild it mainly hunts deer and wild boar. It approaches carefully, using vegetation as cover. Stripes break up its outline among trunks, grasses and shadows, while keen hearing and vision in dim light assist the hunt. These adaptations support a stealthy approach followed by a short, sudden attack.

Adult tigers usually live alone. A female, however, stays with her cubs and cares for them until they can live independently. Tigers communicate through scent and sound, leaving information about their presence. Forest loss and poaching threaten their survival in the wild. They need extensive habitat offering shelter and enough animals to feed on.

Per bambini

Amur tigers do not come only from hot countries. They live in the cool forests of eastern Asia. In winter they grow longer, thicker fur. Their name comes from the Amur River.

Stripes help hide the shape of their bodies among plants and shadows. A tiger creeps towards its prey before attacking with powerful paws. It hunts animals including deer and wild boar. Sharp hearing and eyes that work in low light help it find food.

An adult tiger usually travels alone. A mother caring for cubs is an exception. Tigers also leave scent messages and make different sounds. The forest gives them places to rest and hunt. When forests disappear, finding safe shelter and enough food becomes harder.
