L’oggetto

A replica of the Holy Sepulchre stands at the centre of Mary Magdalene’s Chapel, forming the thirty-second station of Krzeszów’s Calvary. The chapel was built in 1738. Its rectangular body has a gabled roof with a small turret crowned by a Maltese cross.

The replica consists of two rooms. The first and larger one is called the angel’s vestibule. Beyond it lies the actual burial chamber, deeper and darker. This arrangement refers to the Jerusalem site venerated as Christ’s tomb, bringing its religious significance into a Silesian pilgrimage complex.

The chapel’s altar was consecrated in 1740. It contains a painting of the penitent Mary Magdalene by Felix Anton Scheffler. The chapel’s patron saint and the tomb belong to the same Gospel story, developed here through architecture, painting and the successive stations of Calvary.

Georg Neunhertz painted the wall decoration. The frescoes include sleeping soldiers and angels holding the Instruments of the Passion. These images relate to the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection, complementing the two small rooms of the central structure.

A small structure with two rooms stands inside this chapel. It is a replica, or reproduction, of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The larger part is called the angel’s vestibule. The second is deeper and darker because it represents the burial chamber itself.

The chapel was built in 1738. It is rectangular, with a small turret rising from its roof and a Maltese cross at the top. The Holy Sepulchre is the thirty-second station of Krzeszów’s Calvary, a group of places devoted to the story of Jesus’ Passion.

The altar was consecrated two years after the chapel was built. Felix Anton Scheffler painted Mary Magdalene, while Georg Neunhertz created the wall paintings. These include sleeping soldiers and angels carrying objects associated with the Passion. The building and its pictures tell a story important to Christians.
