The Technical Shelter (Machine Room)
The machine room supplied the headquarters with heating, water, electricity and filtered air.
Lingua dei contenuti
The technical shelter housed equipment essential to the headquarters: heating, water-supply systems, electricity generation and air filters. Its machine room was divided into several sections with different tasks. Fuel reserves needed to operate the complex were also stored inside.
An underground channel connected it to the railway shelter. The systems serving the headquarters were therefore housed in a separate building, rather than in the space reserved for the command train and its staff. The building provided both technical support and storage for the main shelter.
In the numbering of the complex, the machine room is no. 2 and the railway shelter is no. 1. These two buildings formed the core of the headquarters, while the smaller bunkers protected them. Their different roles are reflected in the layout of the surviving structures.
