Museum of Mining and the History of Złoty Stok
Tools, maps, coins and residents’ keepsakes tell the story of a mining town.
Jazyk obsahu
Old prints show Złoty Stok under its former name, Reichenstein. They are displayed alongside porcelain, coins from the local mint and residents' documents. The museum combines town history with material evidence of underground work: the mining room contains uniforms, tools and lamps, while another collection includes hand chisels and other tools made by miners.
Geological and mine maps trace the development of the Reicher Trost, Goldener Esel and Himmelfahrt mining fields. Photographs, residents' chronicles, old guidebooks and accounts of local events accompany this technical picture. Memorial displays explore mining families through photographs, quotations and donated keepsakes. The exhibition therefore covers both the organisation of extraction and life beyond a shift in the mine.
The museum room opened on 22 November 2013 in the former miners' assembly building. It was privately funded and created by Elżbieta Szumska in cooperation with Piotr Romanowski. The founders' collections formed its core, supplemented by donations from residents. Displays include the history of the Güttler family, associated with industrial development, arsenic and gunpowder production, and employment in Złoty Stok.
