Visions from Revelation painted above the arms of the church.

Christian Süssenbach and Christian Kolitschky created the painted ceilings in the late seventeenth century. The centre depicts the Holy Trinity, surrounded by musical angels. The decoration extends across the space above the church interior rather than being confined to a single painting.
The scenes from Revelation are set within octagonal frames. They were painted in 1695-1696. Their arrangement follows the arms of the church, with different compositions above different parts of the interior forming an extensive decorative scheme.
The Heavenly Jerusalem appears above the Altar Hall, while the Fall of Babylon is depicted above the Wedding Hall. The two biblical cities carry contrasting meanings: one is associated with the promise of salvation, the other with downfall. Both appear within the same church, above different groups of worshippers.
God the Father surrounded by twenty-four elders fills the painting above the Hall of the Dead. The Last Judgement covers the Field Hall. Although separated by the church’s layout, the paintings share a religious theme, transforming the wooden ceiling into a surface for monumental art.
