Gallery of the town’s early history
Archaeology, weapons and civic objects in the museum’s historical display.
Jazyk obsahu
The historical display begins its account of the earliest past with archaeological finds and a map by Claudius Ptolemy from the second century. The map records early knowledge of the lands around the Elbe, while remains of a Romanesque apse indicate settlement in the twelfth century. Medieval objects include iron artefacts from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and Hussite weapons. Petr Žatecký’s diary connects the local magistrate Řehoř with the Council of Basel in 1432.
Later history is represented by material on the Thirty Years’ War and the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. The display also includes a three-dimensional model of the medieval town and two hoards dating from the first half of the seventeenth century. Civic objects include a restored original town banner from the second half of the eighteenth century. A full-size copy of the Dvůr Králové Manuscript is displayed alongside these original objects.
Pre deti
Finds, a map and civic objects introduce the town’s early history. Ptolemy’s map dates from the second century and records knowledge of the lands around the Elbe. Remains of a Romanesque apse, part of an old chapel, show that people lived here in the twelfth century. The cases contain iron objects and Hussite weapons.
A model shows the medieval town on a small scale. Alongside old hoards is a restored eighteenth-century town banner. The museum also displays a copy of the Dvůr Králové Manuscript. It is the same size as the manuscript, but it is not the original. Material about wars describes events that affected the inhabitants.
