O exponáte

Nadbór belonged to a group of thirteen “small Dutchmen”, steam tugs ordered in the Netherlands under a trade agreement signed in 1946. These vessels had engines rated at 250 metric horsepower and served the canalised section of the Oder between Gliwice, Koźle and Wrocław.

The tug hauled cargo barges until around 1965. Pushed convoys subsequently took over the traffic, while Nadbór, withdrawn from transport service, became a floating boiler plant. Its machinery thus remained useful after its towing career ended.

The original steam engine and boiler room survive. The 250-horsepower engine drove a four-bladed, right-handed propeller. A Scotch boiler produced steam, which reached the engine at a pressure of 16 atmospheres. The hull was made of riveted shipbuilding steel; later repairs replaced some of its plating with welded sections.

In 1998 the vessel was assigned a museum role and became a base for the Open Museum of Technology Foundation. The former captain’s and crew’s cabins were adapted as offices, while the sleeping quarters at the stern became a small exhibition and lecture room.

Pre deti

Nadbór was a tug, a boat used to pull barges carrying goods. It belonged to a group of thirteen similar vessels ordered in the Netherlands, known as the “small Dutchmen”. They worked on the Oder between Gliwice, Koźle and Wrocław. Nadbór towed barges until around 1965. For a time afterwards, it served as a floating boiler plant.

Its steam engine and boiler have survived. The boiler produced steam to power an engine rated at 250 metric horsepower. The engine turned a four-bladed propeller, which moved the vessel through the water. The steel plates of the hull were fastened with rivets, small metal connectors. Some plates were later replaced and welded together. In 1998 the tug became a museum vessel. The old cabins became foundation offices, and the rooms at the stern were adapted for small exhibitions and meetings.
