O exponáte

The Armaments Museum’s aircraft include the TS-11 Iskra, a Polish jet trainer. Its main task was to prepare pilots to fly jet-powered aircraft. Alongside combat machines, it therefore represents equipment used for learning and improving flying skills. Tadeusz Sołtyk’s team developed the design in 1958. It was an original Polish engineering project developed to meet the needs of flight training.

The prototype made its first flight in 1960. This was the testing stage, before series-built aircraft were made. Several years passed between the design work and larger-scale production, as the new machine progressed from drawings to actual flights. Series production began in 1963 at WSK PZL Mielec. Five years had passed from the development of the design to the launch of series production. The Poznań exhibit represents this family of Polish training aircraft.

Pre deti

Pilots have to learn to fly. The TS-11 Iskra was created for teaching and practice. It is a Polish jet aircraft, powered by the stream of gases leaving its engine. In the museum, it represents the part of aviation history concerned with learning to fly.

Tadeusz Sołtyk’s team prepared the design in 1958. Two years later, the prototype flew for the first time. A prototype is a machine used to test a new design. Series production means building more aircraft to the developed design. This began in Mielec in 1963. Designing the aircraft, flying it for the first time and putting it into production did not happen together. Each stage led to the next.
